Solidarity in Quebec

A notebook was installed in the Native Friendship Center of Val-d'Or in February 2017 , expressing solidarity with Muslim communities in Quebec healing from the trauma of a mosque shooting that left six dead and nineteen injured when a far-right, white nationalist with anti-Muslim views attacked during evening prayers. . According to the Centre’s director, Édith Cloutier the Native Friendship Centre  received hundreds of letters of solidarity: “Because we feel powerless in the face of great difficulties ... , it was immediately something that we wanted to do, to show our solidarity in this ordeal” (« Parce qu'on se sent impuissant face à des grandes difficultés... Donc pour nous, c'était d'emblée quelque chose qui a été souhaité, que l'on démontre notre solidarité dans cette épreuve. ») One note read : “I write 'my sympathies to all those who have lost family. My thoughts and my prayers are with you” (« J'ai écrit "mes sympathies à tous ceux qui ont perdu de la famille. Mes pensées et mes prières sont avec vous..." »).
