Roots of Resilience
Roots of Resilience is a digital storytelling platform that explores and celebrates the resilience of Indigenous, refugee, and newcomer communities. They focus on amplifying voices in these communities through art, poetry, photography, film, and storytelling. This creative platform provides refugees, immigrants, settlers, and Indigenous Peoples opportunities to learn more about each other in hopes of nurturing a community in Edmonton. Roots of Resilience focuses on quarterly themes, where different voices enter into conversation. Roots of Resilience has collaborated with the Islamic Family and Social Services Association and Bent Arrow, amongst other faith-based organizations, to celebrate World Refugee Day on June 20. The inclusion of Indigenous communities onRoots of Resilience’s organizing committee to allows Indigenous voices to be integrated into World Refugee Day’s message, while creating a bridge to National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.
